Expert Roundtable – Perspectives on Ukraine’s reconstruction efforts

Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine has had dramatic humanitarian and economic consequences. While the focus now must be kept on the survival of the war, proposals for reconstruction also need to be developed.

The Center for Liberal Modernity, the German Economic Team, and the #RRR4U Consortium, comprising the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting (IER), the Center for Economic Strategy (CES), the Institute of Analytics and Advocacy, and the DiXi Group, invited participants to a roundtable at the Pilecki Institute in Berlin on 14 June 2023, to discuss proposals for the recovery and reconstruction of the country.

After introductory remarks by Robert Kirchner, Deputy Team Leader of the German Economic Team, Maria Repko, Deputy Director of CES, and Oleksandra Betliy, Leading Research Fellow at IER, presented the key points of the “Ukraine Recovery Cookbook”, which provides recommendations for reconstruction based on their experiences on the ground.

In addition to Ukrainian and German experts, two members of the Verkhovna Rada, also took part in the discussion, that was moderated by Ralf Fücks, Founder and Managing Director of the Center for Liberal Modernity.
