IT sector development Ukraine: Panel discussion

On 26 November, the German Economic Team (GET) and the Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations (OA) jointly organised an online event on the Ukrainian IT sector.

The virtual panel was also attended by Josephin Galla, Managing Director SAP South East Europe and Ukraine, SAP SE, Oleksander Davydenko, Chief Innovation Officer of TECHIIA Group, and Nataly Veremeeva, CEO of TechUkraine.

In addition, German and Ukrainian company representatives were invited to promote mutual exchange and cooperation in the IT sector.

After an introduction by Robert Kirchner, Deputy Project Manager and Stefan Kägebein, Regional Director Eastern Europe at the Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations, David Saha from the German Economic Team presented the first edition of the IT Sector Monitor Ukraine.

Saha highlighted the positive contribution of the emerging IT sector to Ukraine’s overall economy. For example, the sector’s share of total exports has increased from less than 3% in 2014 to more than 5% in 2020.

The growing progress of the sector in the value chain towards the full production of IT products as well as government support programmes, such as Dia City, were intensively discussed. The discussants agreed that the IT sector can play an important role in the digitalisation of the Ukrainian economy.
