German Economic Team at Regional Forum on Climate Partnerships in the Western Balkans

At the Regional Forum on Climate Partnerships in the Western Balkans in Pristina on 25 September, the German Economic Team (GET) presented insights from our recent advisory work on energy and climate policy in Kosovo.

Since the beginning of our project activities in Kosovo in 2021, GET has been advising on energy and climate policy issues, including supporting the development of the country’s first National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP). Recently, GET has supported the Ministry of Economy in Kosovo with advisory work to assist with the ongoing liberalisation of the electricity market.

At the Regional Forum, GET Project Manager Marie-Aimée Salopiata drew on insights from this work in an engaging panel discussion entitled “Just Transition in the Western Balkans: Aligning Climate Ambition with Development Needs”, in which she participated alongside representatives from the Kosovo Energy Efficiency Fund (KEEF), GIZ, and the Energy Community Secretariat. During the discussion, she emphasised the NECP’s integrated approach to energy and climate policy planning and discussed the incentives created by electricity market liberalisation to encourage a green transition at company level.

We would like to thank the organisers, especially GIZ Kosovo and the Balkan Green Foundation, for the kind invitation and excellent organisation of the forum.
