The conference “Partial Credit Guarantee Mechanism for the Financing of SMEs: Different Aspects of the Guarantee Fund and Its Mobilizing Role in Belarus” was held in Minsk on 17 October. The event was organized by the International Financial Coorporation (IFC) in Belarus.
Ivan Koriakin, GET Belarus expert on loan guarantee funds, presented at the conference a new policy briefing on “Developing a Sustainable Loan Guarantee Fund in Belarus”, incorporating different international experiences and making concrete recommendations for Belarus. The event was attended by around 60 national and international participants – representatives of the Ministry of Economy, the National Bank, the Development Bank and other national institutions in Belarus – as well as numerous international experts.
Developing a sustainable loan guarantee fund is an important issue for Belarus, as it can greatly facilitate SMEs’ access to finance, thereby helping to strengthen the still relatively weak private sector.
